MANDALUYONG CITY — 19 reporters and 11 media outfits were honored on Wednesday night (Nov. 13) as the 2024 Philippine Heart Association (PHA) Heart Awardees at the EDSA Shangri-La Hotel here.
PHA President Dr. Rodney Enriquez presented the Strategy Map for the next four years or up to 2028 of the PHA.
Dr. Enriquez said that the PHA aims to make Heart Disease not anymore the No. 1 killer disease in the country, adding that the PHA is also gearing towards being included in the “world indexing”.
The five new strengths of the PHA social media are cohesive visual identity, myth-debunking contents, cross – platform presence, widened network of doctor collaborations, and alignment with evolving trends.
The Awards Night coincided with the launching of PHA Social Media, PHA Mascot: Karjo Mahusay and PHA Puso Muna Advocacy.
Karjo Mahusay represents the Cardiovascular Health for Filipinos.
New Usapang Puso sa Puso is a talk show about the heart beat.
The PHA has totally remained the “Usapang Puso sa Puso, which is a 30-minute talk show every Wednesday.
It shifted to a podcast, shortened to about 30 minutes, making it more digestible for today’s episode.
The new format stresses that prevention of cardiovascular disease is empowering.
The “game-changing” advocacy PHA Puso Muna wherein P is for Pagkain ng pagkaing masustansya. H is for Huwag manigariyo. A is for Aktibong pamumuhay. U is for Uminom ng maintenance. O is for Obesity ay iwasan. M is for Matulog nang kumpleto. U is for Umiwas sa stress. N is No to Alcohol and A is Ayawan ang cholesterol.
The PHA was honored to recognize the media and journalists who covered real time and accurate news, stories and advocacies of the PHA.
The Awardees for media, program or show and section category were:
— Manila Standard,
— Philippine Star,
— The Daily Tribune, vowed to disseminate news and information from PHA.
— News ABS CBN.Com Lifestyle/Entertainment, has been supporting the plans and programs of PHA.
— DZEC Radyo Agila 1062, committed to be a partner in strong advocacy of PHA.
— Radyo 630 Teleserbisyo, will continue to support the advocacy of PHA.
— Manila Bulletin Entertainment, and
— PTV 4 Rise & Shine.
For individual category, the Awardees were:
— Calvin Cardova, of Manila Bulletin Cebu,
He thanked the PHA for the recognition and will continue his support for the PHA.
— Edd Usman, of Scitech Digital News,
He assured to be a partner for a long, long time for the health of the Filipinos.
— Rio Araja, of Manila Standard,
“Rest assured to continue to support the heart doctors,” Araja said.
— Claudeth Mocon-Ciriaco, of Business Mirror, thanked the PHA for the Award.
— Diane Querrer, of PTV 4,
Querrer has been recognized by the PHA every year. She came straight from the PTV 4 Studio and she made it sure to be with the Awards night.
— Michael Delizo, of ABS CBN,
Delizo thanked the second time recognition and Award and will continue with his support for the PHA.
— Connie Sison, of Pinoy MD.
Sison thanked the PHA for the third recognition and Award and will continue with her support to the advocacy of PHA.
The Awardees for “People who work behind the scenes” were:
— Shiela Tubalinal, of Radyo 630 Teleserbisyo,
Tubalinal thanked the PHA for the providing the right and accurate information.
— Leilani Junio, of Philippine News Agency,
Junio was thankful for the PHA. She used to be supportive of the advocacy of the PHA before and until now.
— Mackay Quadra, of Pinoy MD and DZBB 594,
Quadra thankful for the PHA for recognizing the people behind the news.
— Amita Legaspi, of GMA News Online, and
Legaspi is not used to speak before a large audience. She herself is hypertensive.
— Jose Rodil Dela Cruz.
Dela Cruz thanked the PHA for the recognition and for the 16 long years of working with his colleagues.
The Hall of Famer were::
— Leony Garcia,
Garcia thanked the PHA for the recognition. She has been in the journalism profession for 15 long years.
— Marou Sarne, and
Sarne emotionally said that she has been in the DWIZ for 30 long years and she felt much loved and much recognized.
— Annabelle Surara, of DZEC Radyo Agila 1062.
Surara thanked the Lord for 30 years of service in DZEC and shared her Award to Net 25 and to her grandchidren. She has been supportive of the PHA for the longest time in her career.
For journalists and media outfits who worked with the PHA for at least 10 years – special citation were:
— Philippine News Agency,
It committed to supporting the PHA with its advocacy, especially on heart issues.
— GMA News Online,
The third consecutive year to receive the accolade from the PHA. It will continue to support the health advocacy of PHA.
— Ma. Teresa Montemayor, and
Montemayor has been covering the PHA for five years and it’s her second Award from PHA. She vowed to support the PHA for as long as she is a journalist.
— Nina F. Corpuz, of PTV 4 Bagong Pilipinas Ngayon, and Radyo 630 Nagseserbisyo with Nina Corpuz and Miguel Bustos.
Corpuz will forever be the ally of PHA for as long as she lives. She thanked the PHA for the Award and hoped for its continuous trust.
Best World Heart Day 2024 News Coverage were ABS-CBN News and PTV 4 News.
Corpuz, on behalf of PTV 4, thanked the PHA for the Award and will continue to support the advocacy of PHA.
The Awardee for Best News Story: “Mending a Broken Heart in the Philippines” was Giselle Ombay, of GMA News Online.
Ombay thanked the PHA for the recognition and Award.
