QUEZON CITY — The Quezon City Green Awards 2025 was held on Thursday (Nov. 13) at the QC MICE Center.
The event aims to recognize organizations and institutions committed to protecting the environment.
Present were Mayor Ma. Josefina “Joy” G. Belmonte, Vice Mayor Gian Sotto, and City Councilors.
In her speech, Mayor Belmonte congratulated the Awardees saying that the mere nomination is already an achievement.
Belmonte cited a recent report which said that the Philippines is the most affected country in the world by extreme weather events.
“I believe that the environmental stewardship and sustainability should start in our communities,” Belmonte said.
She stressed the opening up of more open spaces and green spaces in the city.
Quezon City is the Leader in the Stewardship of the Environment in the Philippines.
Belmonte cited the Quezon City Green Building Code of 2025 that would reduce electric consumption and the reduction of carbon emission into the atmosphere promoting cooler, safer, and more resilient spaces.
She also cited the Circular Community in Payatas, Quezon City transforming waste into new livelihood opportunities.
Belmonte said that there are more than 290 entries from every corner of Quezon City — a testament to creativity and commitment.
She reiterated that the commitment to resiliency and sustainability does not stop.
Orange represents resiliency and Green represents action against climate change.
Orange category exemplifies resiliency and Green category exemplifies climate action.
Acknowledged were PAISD Head Engelbert Apostol, BPLO Head Ma. Margarita Santos-Mejia, Dr. Ramona Asuncion, City Schools Division Head Dr. Noreen Sevilla, Quezon City Tourism Office, Quezon City Health Department, Quezon City Disaster and Resiliency Office Head Bianca Perez, Climate Change and Sustainability Department.
Excellence in Resiliency Awardee was the Community Fire Auxiliary Group Responders of Barangay Batasan Hils.
Excellence in Climate Action Awardee CSO was Kingspoint Joy of Urban Farming Association with plaque and P150,000.
Kaunlaran para sa Kultura + Kalikasan.
Resilient Category for the Youth based organization Awardee was the Youth for Environmental Sustainability Organization (YESO).
UP Association of Civil Engineering Students was awarded the Excellence in Resiliency.
UP Circuit was awarded the Excellence in Climate Action.
Institute off Electronic Engineers of the Philippines Quezon City University Student Chapter
Philippine Institute of Industrial Engineer Quezon City University Student Chapter.
Excellence in Resiliency Awardees were the National Children’s Hospital and Quirino Memorial Medical Center.
Excellence in Climate Action Awardee was Philippine Heart Center, which replaced its old heater that saved P4.5 million in electric bill.
Resilient and Green Schools Awardees were National Orthopedic Hospital School for Crippled Children, Camp Crame Elementary School, Quezon City Science High School, Justice Cecilia Munoz Palma Senior High School, Camp General Emiio Aguinaldo High school, and Claret School of Quezon City.
Green Awardees in Micro Business Category were Philippine Obstetrical and Gynecological Society, Plastics by Manila Automat, and Odangputik Art and Supplies Trading Corp.
Excellence in Climate Action Awardees were IBM Plaza Condominiums Association, Inc., SM City Fairview, U. P. Ayala Land Technohub, among others.
Among others, Excellence in Resiliency Awardees were Barangay Philam, Barangay Sauyo, and Barangay Blue Ridge B.
Excellence in Climate Action Awardees were Barangay Novaliches Proper, Barangay San Bartolome, Barangay West Kamias, and Barangay San Agustin.
Special Citation in Climate Action bestowed on Excellent Building Care & Gen. Services, Inc., and Lockheed Federal Security Agency, Inc.
Excellence in Resiliency Department Awardee was Novaliches District Hospital.
Excellence in Climate Action Awardee was Office of the City Assessor, Quezon City University, and Quezon Memorial Circle Administration Office was both Resilient and Green Awardee. ###
