QUEZON CITY — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the registered owner and driver of a delivery van in a viral video of an intense argument over parking in Quezon City.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said that the issuance of the show cause order (SCO) against the owner and the driver of the Mitsubishi L300 Van bearing Plate No. NEL7278 is in line with the directive of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. to strictly instill road discipline especially among motorists.
In the viral video, the L300 van driver was seen in a heated argument with some car owners in an apparent case of wrong parking. In the video, the van was seen parked alongside the road but was blocking the parking pathway of an establishment in Timog-Tomas Morato area in Quezon City.
“Kitang-kita sa video na mali ang parking ng van subalit lumalabas na ang tapang pa ng driver nito. But we will give the driver and the owner the opportunity to explain their side,” Asec Mendoza.said.
Mendoza said that the license of the driver will immediately be suspended for 90 days once the identity is established at the course of the investigation.
On the other hand, he said that the L300 van was placed under alarm pending the result of the probe by the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division headed by Renante Melitante.
The driver is facing charges of illegal parking, obstruction and being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
Both the driver and owner were asked to explain why they should not be sanctioned over the incident.
“Failure to appear and submit the written comment/explanation as required shall be construed by this Office as a waiver of your right to be heard, and the case shall be decided based on the evidence at hand,” the SCO read. ###
