QUEZON CITY — The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has summoned the driver and the registered owner of a mixer truck that went viral after it rammed vehicles along a road before it plunged into a ravine in Bataan province.
LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor D. Mendoza II said that the truck was also placed under alarm to prevent any transaction with the agency pending the result of the investigation.
“We already issued a show cause order (SCO) against both the driver and the owner of the truck to ask them to explain why they should not be sanctioned, especially on the aspect of always ensuring the road worthiness of the motor vehicle,” Asec. Mendoza said.
In the viral video, the driver was seen trying to maneuver the truck before jumping out.
The incident happened on Aug. 7, 2025 in Barangay Bangal in Dinalupihan town and the video also showed the truck ramming vehicles parked alongside the road, hitting an eatery before it fell into a ravine.
In the SCO signed by LTO Intelligence and Investigation Division chief Renante Melitante, the driver was asked to explain why he should not be penalized for reckless driving and for being an Improper Person to Operate a Motor Vehicle.
Mendoza said that the SCO will give the driver a chance to fully explain what happened.
“The incident highlighted the importance of our regular surprise and random inspection on trucks, due to cases of road crashes involving this type of vehicle. But we cannot cover all of them and this investigation should serve as a warning of consequences of the owners failing to ensure the road worthiness of their motor vehicles,” Mendoza stressed. ###
