PASIG CITY — Congressional candidate Atty. Christian “Ian” Sia is seeking amendments to Republic Act 9262, or the Violence Against Women and their Children (VAWC) Law.
In an interview, Atty. Sia said that he will file a House Bill, if elected Congressman in the May 12 elections, strengthening the provision on financial support on the child affected by the separation of the parents or if the husband decides to leave the wife due to financial inability.
Atty. Sia cited that under the law, even the grandparents have the responsibility to also take care their grandchildren if their father leaves their mother.
He was prompted to seek anendnents to RA 9262 because of an incident where a father decided to resign from his job and left his family and returned to his parents and never again provided financial support to his children.
Atty. Sia also cited a case of a father whose health card insurance could not anymore provide for the hospitalization of his children, which should be carefully be reviewed and restudied. ###
