In their convention at the Marikina Hotel & Convention Center, the PLM endorsed Ka Leody De Guzman and Atty. Luke Espiritu as their official senatorial candidates in the May 2025 national elections.

Under the theme “Manggagawa Naman! Hindi Dinastiya! Itayo ang Gobyerno ng Masa!”, the convention was held in order to nominate Ka Leody de Guzman and Atty. Luke Espiritu as the Senatorial Candidates of PLM for the 2025 National Elections.

Ka Leody is the President of Partido Lakas ng Masa and ran for President under PLM during the 2022 National Elections.

Atty. Luke is the President of Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino (PBM) and ran for Senator during the 2022 National Elections.

Long-time leaders of the labor movement in the Philippines, Ka Leody and Atty. Luke ran on a pro-labor, pro-masses platform in 2022 and were able to successfully bring the issues of the people to the foreground during the previous election.

They intend to do the same and discuss the Plataporma ng Gobyerno ng Masa with the people this election.

In his speech, De Guzman boasted of the 100,000 volunteers for the election campaign for Senator for both Espiritu and De Guzman.

He cited that the old Rice Tariffication Law and Executive Order No. 62 are the reasons for the unabated increase in the price of rice.

De Guzman stressed that there is hope for reforms judging from his experience in running for President in the May 2022 presidential elections.

He took swipes on the incredible margin of 20 million votes counted in just an hour in the last May 2022 presidential elections.

For his part, Atty. Espiritu said that the problem now is “existential” problem, highlighting the Impending World War III, the epicenter of which will be in Asia, particularly in the Philippines.

He cited the problem on climate change leading to climate disaster.

Espiritu stressed that the alternative to traditional politicians are the people in the Labor groups.

“We are standing now that we are the alternative to tradpols,” he said.

“I and Ka Leody will never dance, sing in getting votes in the May 2025 national elections,” he added.

Espiritu called for the debate on the contractualization, women’s rights, and interests of the poor and marginalized.

Comelec Resolution No. 11045 requires the official nomination for the May 12, 2025 midterm national and local elections.

Ka Leody De Guzman was nominated and seconded for Senator of the PLM. De Guzman is now an official nominee for Senator.

Atty. Luke Espiritu was also nominated and seconded for Senator of the PLM.

De Guzman accepted the challenge. Espiritu accepted the nomination. Both De Guzman and Espiritu are now official nominees for Senator of PLM.

The Certificate of Candidacy of De Guzman and Espiritu will be filed on Oct. 4, 2024.

They took their oath to fight against political dynasty, corruption and oligarchy.

They vowed to pursue democracy for the PLM, the poor and the Masang Pilipino.

Also present during the convention were Atty. Alex Lacson and former DICT Sec. Gen. (Ret.) Eliseo Rio.
