PASAY CITY – The Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) on Thursday (Oct. 17) held the grand ceremonial signing of the memorandum of agreement (MOA) for the 76 approved projects for 2024 with a total budget of PHP935,262,000.
In a video message, DOST Secretary Dr. Renato U. Solidum, Jr. said that the event today features the MOA signing for the approved projects for 2024.
The grand ceremonial MOA signing will serve as a platform to showcase the new projects and research supported by the PCIEERD for 2024.
Solidum said that today is the culmination of the event that happened in Makati last July 2024.
“Our gratitude goes to all the project leaders and representatives of the various implementing agencies of our new endeavors for uniting together to formalize our commitment to driving progress through research and development,” Solidum said.
“We applaud your courage and determination to take on the challenge of contributing to the country’s betterment through science and technology,” he added.
DOST-PCIEERD Executive Director Dr. Enrico C. Paringit said “PCIEERD is dedicated to fostering investment and collaboration through our esteemed projects and programs. Today’s event is a step closer to our commitment to making innovation work for everyone.”
“We look forward to exploring new ideas, fostering collaboration, and driving impactful solutions together to contribute to the nation’s growth and betterment,” Paringit added.
A total of 76 approved projects (2024 call for proposals) with a total budget of PHP935,262,000.
The sectors are technology transfer, institutional development, mining and minerals, creative industries, metals and engineering, processing, environment, food, energy, disaster risk reduction and management, advanced materials, science communication, ICT and electronics, and quantum technologies, among others.
The 32 grantees in the academe are Ateneo de Manila University, Cagayan State University, Caraga State University, De La Salle University Manila, Davao del Sur State College, University of Southern Mindanao, University of Southeastern Philippines, University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines – Main Campus, Claveria Campus, and CDO Campus, Central Mindanao University, Father Saturnino Urios University, Mindanao State University (MSU) – Marawi, University of Cordilleras, Western Institute of Technology, Xavier University, Technological University of the Philippines – Visayas, Bukidnon State University, Cebu Normal University, University of the Philippines (UP) – Los Banos, UP – Diliman, Ateneo de Davao University, Camarines Sur Polytechnic College, Central Philippine University, Davao del Norte State College, Holy Angel University, Jose Rizal Memorial State University, Marikina Polytechnic College, Mapua University, MSU – Iligan Institute of Technology, Mindoro State University, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, and Technological Institute of the Philippines.
The 16 startup companies/business enterprises are AgileBound Technologies Inc., Agguimangan Agro Ecotourism Farm, Bestfriend Goodies, Board Prep Solutions, Incorporated, BookSpine Inc., Everything Green, Island Harvest, Joshue Tree Consulting, KusinaUniversity Online Tutorial Services, Makarius Smart Learning (Makarius Smart Innovations Inc.), Marquez Hibla PH, Mavil’s House of Mushroom Inc., Northern Food Session Groceries, Packworks Inc., Shoppable Inc., and Probot Corp.
The eight government agencies/private organizations are DOST-Advanced Science and Technology Institute (ASTI), DOST-Forest Product Research and Development Institute (FPRDI), DOST-Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute (ITDI), DOST-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), DOST-Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI), Philippine Foundation for Science and Technology (PFST), and Cybercraft Philippines Association.
From 2011 t0 2023, the DOST-PCIEERD have invested a total of PHP20.9 billion in 1,807 Research and Development projects.
The top R&D sectors were Space Technology Applications with PHP3.996 billion, Food with PHP2.16 billion, Process with PHP2.137 billion, Technology Transfer & Commercialization with PHP1.832 billion, and Material Science with PHP1.461 billion.
