CAMP KARINGAL — The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) now has a new District Director in the person of Police Col. Melecio M. Buslig, Jr.

Outgoing QCPD District Director Police Brig. Gen. Redrico D. Maranan turned over the command to Col. Buslig.

Present during the turnover ceremonies were Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte and National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Regional Director Police Maj. Gen. Jose Melencio C. Nartatez, Jr., among others.

Maranan was earlier installed as the Regional Director of Police Regional Office 3 (Central Luzon) in Camp Olivas, Pampanga. 

Maranan was awarded the Medalya ng Kagitingan for his outstanding and exemplary tour of duty as QCPD District Director from August 2023 to September 2024. 

Both the termination of office of Maranan and designation of Buslig was effective Sept. 30, 2024.

In his speech before relinquishing the post to Acting QCPD District Director Col. Buslig, Maranan described as an honor and privilege to serve as QCPD District Director.

Maranan expressed his profound gratitude for the unwavering support of Mayor Joy Belmonte.

He cited the vital donations granted by Mayor Belmonte for vehicles, equipment and facilities amounting to millions of pesos.

The QCPD was able to be digitized in February this year that led to the CyberCrime prevention.

Camp Karingal was transformed into an environment-friendly facility and has become a “green” area in terms of green plants.

Maranan termed as a paramount task to ensure the safety and security of Mayor Belmonte.

In his inaugural speech, Col. Buslig expressed his gratitude for his designation as Acting QCPD District Director to President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. and DILG Sec. Benhur Abalos.

Buslig also thanked Mayor Belmonte and NCRPO Chief Maj. Gen. Nartatez.

He vowed to lead aligned with the seven-point agenda of the NCRPO and the advocacy of Mayor Joy Belmonte. 

Buslig committed to fully support the community and the QC local government unit with full transparency and accountability.

Nartatez, in his speech, said that the PNP is really a “dynamic” organization such that he has presided over in other turn over ceremonies in the NCR.

“Management of resources, particularly our personnel. Taking care of the morale of our personnel in terms of schooling and we are also fast in punishing the erring policemen,” he said.

He cited only 5 percent or 1,200 personnel were either discipined, demoted or punished for wrong doings.

The district directors have the discipinary powers of imposing of upto 15 days of suspension.

Nartatez had the opportunity to serve the QCPD in the past 13 months to have a safe and peaceful past SONAs during the third Monday of July eachh year.

The Cubao area and Kaming area, as well as BGC in Taguig City were infused with additional personnel that contributed to the decrease in criminality. 

“Sa Bagong Pilipinas, ang gusto ng Pulis, Ligtas Ka,” Nartatez said. 

Mayor Belmonte, in her keynote speech, 

said that it is a significant moment to witness the turn over of QCPD from Maranan to Buslig. 

“Maranan is so far the best QCPD Director the city has ever had,” Belmonte said . 

Belmonte cited Maranan”s drive against criminality, gambling and illegal drugs which resulted in the arrest of

2,000 individuals, 3,400 illegal gamblers and confiscation of P89-million worth of drugs making Quezon City a drug-free city.

She noted that 1,300 most wanted persons were apprehended.

Belmonte also cited Maranan’s commitment to the safety and security of QC citizens.

“By creating a safe community for all, we can boost the economy,” Belmonte said.

Belmonte thanked Maranan for his exemplary service which resulted to making Quezon City as the most “business friendly”.

The QCPD is composed of 3,000 policemen responsible for the safety and security of more than 3 million population.

Belmonte stressed that Quezon City has had eight changes in the QCPD District Director which defeats “continuity” and “succession”, which she hopes would be considered.
