MARIKINA CITY — The Marikina City local government on Thursday (Sept. 12) hosted the induction and oathtaking of the newly-elected officers of the PaMaMariSan-Rizal Press Corps.
In his speech, City Administrator Melvin Cruz said the difference of the social media today is that of having a *feedback” on whether or not a news article is fake news and it has an immediate “ripple effect”.
Cruz has been in Marikina local government unit since 1992, noting that, it was difficult then. There was no “feedback” mechanism.
Cruz expresssed gratitude and elation for the Marikina lgu, on behalf of Mayor Marcy Teodoro, in hosting the induction and oathtaking of PaMaMariSan-Rizal Press Corps at Kapitan Restaurant.
Councilor Donn Favis cited that radio broadcasters wete just being known previously by their voices and not their faces.
Favis noted the difference of traditional media which cannot be compared with that of the social media even with the advent of the Artificial Intelligence.
Councilor Angel Nunez stressed the evolution of social media from the traditional media with the development of technology.
Nunez cited the values put into the practice of journalism to bring out responsible and best professional media practitioners.
Janet Obispo, Human Resources Chief, echoed the city administrator’s statement about once a year exercise with the media.
EPD Deputy Director for Administration Sr. Supt. Josefino Ylagan represented EPD Director Brig. Gen. Wilson Asueta.
Supt. Ylagan stressed of the bridging the gap between the community that the real trust with the PNP will be restored in achieving the mission and vision of the PNP that is to serve and protect the Filipino people and preserve the safety, peace and order of the whole nation.
Marikina Chief of Police Sr. Supt. Erwin Dayag noted the importance of the media in disseminating information about the projects and programs of the government.
On police operation, Dayag mentioned the role of the media, especially on drug operations, as they stand as witness as well.
He stressed that the media also play an important role in disseminating the right and timely information such as in accidents, calamities whether natural or man-made.
NPC Secretary Cristina Maralit, daughter of former PNP Spokesman Brig. Gen. Chris Maralit, represented NPC Present Leonel Boying Abasola.
She cited the able and incomparable leadership of President Neil Alcober, adding that, the PaMaMariSan-Rizal Press Corps is the least problematic member of the NPC.
She urged the Press Corps not to be victimized by fake news and uphold the Code of Ethics for Journalist.
The PaMaMariSan-Rizal Press Corps Officers who were inducted were President Neil Alcober, Vice President Vick Aquino, Secretary Perfecto T. Raymundo, Jr., Treasurer Elma Morales, Auditor Irwin Corpuz, P. R. O. Nep Castillo, Chairman Raffy Rico, Directors Neil Miranda, Nolan Ariola, Gina Mape, Edd Usman, Christian Oineza and Felix Tambongco, and Members Maritess Pumaras, Knots Alforte, and Alvin Murcia.
