CAINTA, Rizal — Mayor Kit Nieto said that the Cainta Flood Summit is timely.
Mayor Nieto noted that the heavy rains lasted for six days and some Typhoons wrecked havoc, together with incessant rains spawned by Habagat (southwest monsoon), which inundated some areas.
Aside from continuous dredging of the river, Mayor Nieto ordered the installation of the Water Booster Pump that pushes water in the river toward Laguna De Bay.
This is where the Caintenios in low-lying areas were found flooded from up to neck-deep before and now only down to waist-deep, from waist-deep down to knee-deep, and from knee-deep down to ankle-deep, according to their observation.
After the flooding, Mayor Nieto said the clean-up was immediately undertaken as well as the distribution of relief packs and medicines for leptospirosis.
Nieto has called for the Cainta Flood Summit with the homeowners who are always affected by the floodings.
Mayor Nieto explained the reason of the floodings since then where he found the reason of the “meet-up” of rainwater from upland areas in nearby towns which is now being meticulously studied.
The Cainta LGU (local government unit) will deploy 400 personnel for three months and they will be hired to clear up the clogged canal and determine if it’s still possible to construct a new canal.
This will be undertaken in the subdivisions for the meantime until such time they reach the next thing to be undertaken.
“A new drainage system will be constructed in Imelda Avenue from Dental Station in Karangalan up to Vista Verde Gate 3; we will maximize the size of the reinforced concrete pipes to be installed,” Mayor Nieto said.
“Outright 72 inches purposely to cut in half the river flow which is now passing only Hakbangan creek. Hakbangan creek catches the waters coming from Filinvest, Greenpark, Karangalan and Vista Verde; (realign budget to start in 2 months),” Nieto said.
The HOA of each subdivision will construct and report about their finished jobs to the municipality, submit their scope of work and timeline of completed streets each week to monitor the output.
Mayor Nieto expressed his heartfelt thanks to Labor Sec. Benny Laguesma, whom he has personally talked to and accommodated his request to fund the program.
“Sobrang salamat po, seryoso po ang trabaho.. output based po at sasalain namin ang mag aapply para makuha natin ang output na inaasahan natin” Nieto said.
The mission is to clear up all the clogged canals and to discover the condemned lines to change and fix.
The Cainta LGU will purchase all the materials needed by the workers and they have the chance to remain after the contract. ###
