PASIG CITY — If she gets elected Pasig City Mayor in the May 12 elections, Philanthropist Sarah Discaya is pushing for the establishment of a recycling and waste-to-energy manufacturing facility in Barangay Pinagbuhatan.
The planned project called “Basura Mo, Pag-asa Ko: Galing Basura, Gawang Kabuhayan,” is geared towards turning trash into treasure.
The project will utilize innovative, eco-friendly solutions to tackle the city’s waste problem while creating jobs and livelihood opportunities for Pasigueños.
“For us, landfills should not be the end of the road,” Discaya said.
“Under Ate Sarah’s leadership, they will mark a new beginning — of work, of livelihood, of a cleaner city, and a fresh way to look at progress,” she added.
Discaya cited Section 22 of the Local Government Code wherein local governments have the authority to enter legal agreements and invest in projects that benefit their constituents directly.
“That’s why we’re pushing for the creation of a waste-to-energy and manufacturing hub in Pinagbuhatan,” Discaya said.
“It’s not just about solving our garbage problem — it’s about turning waste into power and jobs,” she added.
Likewise, she expressed the belief in the power of urban agriculture.
Discaya is also pushing for a systematic vertical farming program throughout Pasig City.
“This will provide jobs, boost food security and strengthen the local economy — especially for the youth, senior citizens, persons with disabilities and parents who want to earn from home,” Discaya said.
“Under Ate Sarah’s leadership, we’re not just cultivating land — we’re cultivating dreams. Dreams of families to thrive, live in safety, and pursue dignified livelihoods,” she ended. ###
