MAKATI CITY — The two-day (June 3-4) Malaysian Palm Oil Forum Philippines 2025 is now open and being held at the Dusit Thani Manila here.
During the Malaysian Palm Oil Forum at the Mayuree Ballroom of the Dusit Thani Manila, tackled were Lauric Oils: Advancements, Market Dynamics and Applications, among others.
It is hosted by Malaysian Palm Oil Council (MPOC) and supported by MOMG.
In his speech, Malaysian Ambassador to the Philippines Dato Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino noted that the trade between the Philippines and Malaysia amounted to US$8.2 billion.
Castelino stressed that the Philippines is the biggest importer of Palm Oil in the ASEAN Region.
He said that coconut oil is the Iconic industry in the Philippines where the Malaysian Palm Oil plays a complementary role.
For the Philippines, he said, Makaysian Palm Palm Oil serves as a source of vegetable oil.
“Philippine coconut oil and Malaysian palm oil can co-exist,” Castelino said.
“Malaysia chairs the ASEAN this year and the Philippines will be the Chair next year,” he added.
Castelino expressed the hope that the outcome of today’s forum will be the basis for future investments in Malaysian palm oil.
The Malaysian ambassador has been in the Philippines for two years now.
Castelino emphasized that fruitful relationship will be built between the Philippine and Malaysian people.
Belvinder Sron, CEO of MPOC, noted that they are expecting 250 delegates but it has reached 450 delegates for the two-day forum.
“The MPOF is a key event organized by the MPOC,” Sron said.
She noted that there was a 24% increase from 6 million tons to 10 million tons of palm oil.
There was a high level of import implies high reliance to oil imports.
“The palm oil sector is a key driver to the ASEAN Region where the Philippines is the biggest importer of palm oil with a population of 140 million,” Sron said.
