QUEZON CITY — Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Chairperson Atty. Teofilo Guadiz III has ordered a full crackdown on reckless public utility drivers following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s call for stricter road discipline.
This comes after recent viral road incidents in Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City and in Valenzuela City involving so-called “kamote” drivers or PUV drivers who ignore traffic rules and endanger passengers and other motorists.
“The President is right. This has to stop. These drivers are a threat to public safety, and we will take them off the road,” Guadiz said.
The LTFRB is already working with the LTO (Land Transportation Office), MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority), and LGUs (Local Government Units) to identify and penalize the drivers involved.
Guadiz said that franchise holders who fail to control their drivers will face administrative charges, and preventive suspensions are being prepared.
“We are moving now—not after another accident. We’re auditing operators with repeated violations and will revoke franchises if necessary,” he added.
The LTFRB is deploying more field inspectors and strengthening coordination with enforcement agencies.
“Driving a public vehicle is a responsibility. If you’re reckless, you’re out because it poses danger to people’s lives,” Guadiz stressed.
“Public transport must be safe. That’s non-negotiable,” he pointed out.
The LTFRB is also urging commuters and motorists to immediately report reckless drivers through official channels to help rid public transport of undisciplined operators.
For reports or complaints, the public may call LTFRB’s 24/7 hotline at 1342 or send a message via the agency’s official Facebook page. ###
