QUEZON CITY — The government-owned People’s Television Network Channel 4 (PTV 4) is operated through the taxpayers’ money hence governtments’ projects and programs are highlighted in its shows and programs.

In a press conference during the launch of its new programs on Friday, September 8, PTV 4 general manager Ann Puod said that the people’s TV will exert its best effort to be able to become no. 2 TV network in the country.

At present, GMA 7 is the country’s no. 1 broadcasting network in terms of viewership and coverage area nationwide.

Puod had 36 years experience as a broadcast journalist from Abs-cbn and TV 5.

She added that entertainment or variety shows are not within the mandate of the government television network.

Puod stressed that for the longest time it has long been a wrong notion or “fake news” that the PTV 4 was only airing the views of pro-government people.

She assured that opposition lawmakers and government critics’ views are also being aired over the government TV station.

The PTV 4 manager also said that they are asking for a P500-million subsidy, but they were only given a subsidy of P125 million.

For his part, Mike Abe, who is one of the leading program hosts of PTV 4, said that news are the same everyday the only difference is how a reporter writes the story.

That’s why, Abe said, he tackles the straight news in a different way such as how prices of goods and services increase and what the government is doing about it to address and respond to it.

He noted that the PTV 4 is owned by all Filipinos not only the more than 31 million Filipinos who elected into office President Ferdinand “Bongbong” R. Marcos, Jr. – Perfecto T. Raymundo, Jr.
